Been reading “The Second Chair Leader” by Mike Bonem and Roger Patterson. Rocked my world! Here’s what they had to say to us second chair leaders…

If you are on a church staff you are potentially a second chair leader - a leader who influences those around you and adds value throughout your organization - here are 2 things you may want to pay attention to.

1. Always support the first chair leader. Support him or her through your loyalty, your encouragement, and by taking on specific duties as assigned. Gain a clear understanding of the authority that he or she is giving you, and always him or her informed of an significant undertakings or issues.

2. Always think of the needs of the congregation (or organization) ahead of any specific tasks. Identify and act upon ideas that enable the organization to operate more effectively and, in doing so, to better fulfill its vision. These ideas are likely to cut across organizational boundaries.

FYI: All other responsibilities are secondary to that.
