Just Sayin’…
Anyone who knows anything about me knows that I LOVE soccer. I have played since I was five years old (and still play - though not very well anymore - when I get the chance). I know a lot about the sport. In fact, I can talk for hours just about my opinions about the game and the players. My favorite team (aside from USA) is Manchester United.
- One day I will watch a game at Old Trafford!
- One day I will see the USA actually do something fantastic, even magical in the later rounds of the tournament and not just in group play!
- One day I will coach my children should they choose to play the greatest sport in the world!
I know I’m biased, but this is not an I hate football post. Seriously, I like football and hockey, basketball is all right I guess, and I’d rather play tennis, golf, or baseball than watch them any day… But soccer to me is the most challenging and beautiful sport I’ve ever played or experienced. 700 million people watching the World Cup Final somewhat agree with me (the Superbowl only had 106 million by the way). Just sayin’.
Can you tell I love soccer?? Here’s my question… WHAT DO YOU LOVE??
I bet that if we spent some time together I could quickly figure out what you love. It usually is what consumes your conversations. For some it’s sports, others it’s their kids, others it’s their jobs… Sometimes I have to stop and remind myself of what is important. Lately, I’ve caught myself talking more about soccer than my wife or even more importantly, my Savior. I guess it really is true, TALK + TIME = TREASURE. Or as Jesus famously put it, “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” I’m definitely a work in progress, I could make excuses, it was the World Cup right? It does only come every four years… Or I could remind myself that there are more important things in life. Maybe you needed that reminder too… Just sayin’.
