My Experience

Yesterday was a great day! This was my first time back in the office after 2 weeks of spending time as a family, celebrating the addition of our beautiful baby girl, Finley Hope. Here’s what happened… I received a call yesterday morning from a new family in the church who was in need. Hey had no food, four kids, and no money until this weekend to get food. Now, when I say no food, I don’t mean they had all canned goods or just no food they liked. I mean old Mother Hubbard showed up and the cubbards were bare.

What was amazing to see was the body of Christ (the church) in action. I put out a facebook message for anyone that could to bring a bag of groceries to the church office by 4:00 pm. When I walked in, there was a HUGE mound of food where a table once stood:) I love the church in action. In my experience there are few things more powerful than a group of people helping each other out. At least that is what I thought until today. This morning I woke up to a few messages from some wonderful people who were frustrated that they missed out on helping someone else. NOW THAT IS POWERFUL!! What if the church was like this all the time?! Fighting to bless those around us… Frustrated if we weren’t able to pitch in and help out…

Hebrews 10 in the Amplified Bible puts it like this, “And let us consider and give attentive, continuous care to watching over one another, studying how we may stir up (stimulate and incite) to love and helpful deeds and noble activities.” I won’t even get into the follow-up verse to that, you can do that on your own (Heb.10:24-25).

In my experience, true followers of Jesus Christ, true Chrsitians, are the individuals who have the heart of God. They love God so much that they start to love what He loves… Other people. They’ve stepped outside of the selfish Christianity that critiques every aspect of the church service and whether or not they liked it or it met their needs and they start to meet other people’s needs. They replace religion with love. They strive to put God FIRST and they become second. At least in my experience:)
